Markdale

The only local community with factories producing both ice cream and pickles, Markdale adds its own flavour to the Grey County feast. Attractive parks, a main street that hosts festivals right on the pavement, and a new residence for seniors enliven this village. 

Historical Facts

  • First named East Glenelg, Markdale was settled around 1850
  • Its present name derives from Mark Armstrong, an early developer
  • Barrhead Saw Mill is one of the oldest buildings still on its Rocky Saugeen River site
