“Elvis: Grace & Grit” exhibitJanuary 21, 2012 to May 6, 2012Location: Grey Roots Museum & Archives Curated from the CBS Photo Archives, the exhibit examines the young and feisty, talented and sexy, Elvis Presley who revolutionized pop music in the early sixties. His trailblazing renditions of blacks-only blues with rock shot him to the top of the charts and into the libidos of America's teenage girls. Elvis' signature hip roll, considered too risque for prime time TV, prompted the famous order (to CBS cameramen of the Ed Sullivan Show) to photograph the King from the waist up. The exhibition Elvis: Grace and Grit looks at the early years of superstardom through his many CBS appearances. Thirty-five behind the scenes candids and on air photographs document Elvis before the Las Vegas years -- during the meteoric rise of this star.
