Grey County Partners on Successful Hosting of 2nd Annual Rural Tourism Symposium

Ontario’s tourism industry gathered in Peterborough last week for the 2nd Annual Rural Tourism Symposium. This collaborative undertaking supported by Grey County Tourism was a 1-day event designed to raise the profile of rural tourism as an integral part of the visitor experience and an important economic driver in Ontario’s rural communities. Symposium participants came together to exchange ideas on how to retain and expand the number of tourists visiting rural communities.
The symposium included presentations from Lisa LaVecchia from Destination Ontario, as well as from Destination Canada, Parks Canada and the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO).
The symposium was also a stop on Canada’s national series of Tourism Town Halls,  a partnership between the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, Destination Canada, and local industry partners. This Town Hall featured a panel discussion with Grey County Tourism’s Bryan Plumstead on behalf of TIAO and was moderated by Michele Harris, Director of Economic and Community Development with the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
