2011 Fall Colour Report
Fall Colour Report 2011
Monday, October 17:
The fall colours are starting to get dull after a weekend of heavy rain and high winds. Many of the leaves have fallen to the ground. We are reporting 80% leaf fall with just some spots of yellow left on the poplar and willow trees. Most other colours have become dull or fallen to the ground.
Tuesday, October 11:
The fall leaves are at peak right now in Grey County! We are at 100% colour change and have about 20% leaf fall across much of the County. That means there will be lots of leaves for raking into piles to jump in by the coming weeekend.
Friday, October 7:
The leaves are well on their way to changing colour in Grey County! We are currently reporting around 80% change in colour in our area. Almost ALL of the trees have now turned colour, with very few green patches left. There is minimal leaf fall on the ground. The colours tend to peak around Thanksgiving weekend but this year things are moving a little faster than usual.
On the glorious sun-shiny Thursday afternoon before Thanksgiving, we sent local photographer Aukie Vandevrie up to have a look at the fields and forests of southern Grey County from the air. Aukie captured a gorgeous mix of fall colours, from the brilliant green of sprouting winter wheat to the deep blue of local lakes, from silvery mist rising from the marsh to the bronze-tinged greens of the cedar bush. Of course, it's the golds, oranges and reds of mixed maples that shine through.
