This multi-purpose, fully accessible recreation destination has altered the culture of fitness and recreation across Grey and Bruce Counties. The dream became reality when the City and Family Y forged a new partnership toward the creation of this facility and the Federal and Provincial governments made funding commitments along with over 800 generous donors from this community. The facility attributes to healthy lifestyles, rehabilitation opportunities and innovative ways to be active and healthy. Rooted at the centre of our community, it connects the people of Grey and Bruce, integrating a wide range of health, recreation and fitness programs into a modern two-storey facility. It has become a community hub and a place where everyone belongs. Designed for accessibility, the centre is physically and financially accessible to everyone in the community. There are new opportunities for skating, ringette, lacrosse, hockey, aquatics, fitness and recreation of all kinds for all ages. The new Aquatic Centre is triple the size of the previous Y facilities. The warm water leisure pool has a large, shallow entry, a sitting alcove with water jets and water play features for children of all ages. The 8 lane 25 metre pool provides dedicated lanes for fitness swimming, added opportunities for drop-in programs, increased space for aquafit classes and better serves our Special Olympic and Aquatic Club athletes. The Wellness Centre is equipped with fitness and cycling studios, an indoor walking/running track and a bright, open-concept conditioning centre. A multi-sport gymnasium located on the main floor is open to the conditioning centre above. The Cardiac Rehabilitation program will continue to be offered through the Family Y. The new double ice-pad/floor with a designated year round rink provides opportunities for expanded minor sport programs, City recreational programs and more opportunity for recreational and competitive users. If you’re not on the ice or running up and down the floor – you can enjoy the activity from one of the great spectator areas situated at the end of each surface or at ice/floor level for those spectators who like to be a little closer to the action.
