In November 1881 the heavily-laden freight and passenger vessel Jane Miller capsized in Georgian Bay en route to ports along the peninsula and Manitoulin Island. Driving snow and gale-force winds made rescue of the thirty passengers and crew members impossible and all lives were lost. Located in the Colpoy's Lookout Conservation Area, Island View Drive, about 11 km northeast of Wiarton.
