World-Class doesn’t begin to describe the unique places you can see and be inspired by right here in Grey County.
I didn't always know how fortunate I was to grow up in Grey County until the moment I moved away to post-secondary and realized that we are a four-seasons utopia of endless exploration. As someone who doesn’t consider herself an ‘outdoorsy’ soul, for the last three years Grey County has reeled me in close with all its beauty and I’m not sure I picture myself planting my life anywhere else. From the surface, the countryside often gets pegged as boring but with deeper inspection, it goes without saying that we have a network of communities killing it in all things culinary, agriculture, tourism, artistry, adventure and entrepreneurship.
One of my favourite parts about living in Grey County is being mere kilometers away from my next discovery, all of which I bring my magical friends along to experience too. You can usually spot me camera in hand, ready to blast social media with my foodie adventures or rockin’ my new favourite hat (I have a slight obsession).
When I’m not out on the discovery, you can find me contributing local based content in Escarpment Magazine, pouring wine tastings at The Roost Wine Company or working on my blog, Lokal Digs. Lokal Digs is a platform I built to boast about local people, places and things in the heart of Georgian Bay communities. My inspiration was conceived over heuvos rancheros and derived from the appreciation I have for the talent that weaves throughout our rural areas. It’s a place that I can share the magic and in return meet and foster some of the most rewarding friendships. You think you’ve seen it all, but that is far from the truth. I am all about the journey and as exciting as it is for me to explore my local turf and keep the gems hidden close, my ultimate goal is to give my readers a truly “lokal” perspective and offer them a little discovery too.
My ideal day in Grey County would go a little something like this:
- Visit any of the wonderful wineries in the area – Coffin Ridge, The Roost or Georgian Hills.
- Stroll along Loree Forest to that epic view of Georgian Bay. Take in all the beauty.
- Roadie to Flesherton for lunch at The Bicycle Café or head to Meaford and dig in at The Leeky Canoe. I’m not telling you what to order but get the Kiawana sandwich.
- Dinner is a toss up – it’s either Bruce Wine Bar for wood-fired pizza or a sunset picnic stocked with specialty cheeses from The Cheese Gallery.
- Tour to Hanover for Schultz's Bakery donuts. You'll need to arrive before 10am to get a rasberry fritter.
Can you tell I’m a foodie? I’m just crazy in love with this place.
For now, join me as I take the reigns as a Grey County Insider and give you the 360 scoop on all things local. It’s time to show you how I Colour It My Way and how you can too.
