Fall fairs are ingrained in Grey County's history. Most still celebrate the season the way it has been done for well over a century in rural Ontario, with livestock and trained animal shows; bake-offs; fruit, vegetable, flower and preserve contests; parades; quilt and art shows; farm equipment displays; BBQ dinners and live entertainment.
If it's sunny and it's Sunday, venture down to Beautiful Joe Park and enjoy a guided tour with a volunteer from the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society. The informative walking tour takes approximately 20 minutes and you will learn about:
- Canada's most famous dog
- the Canadian author who made him famous
- the history of this unique park and the society and community that made it all happen
The Sunny Sunday Tours occur on the quarter hour - 12:15, 12:45, 1:15 and 1:45 - and only if it's sunny (not raining). The terrain is level and several benches are available throughout the park as well as at the picnic pavilion.
Speaking of picnic .... why not bring a lunch and spend some time in historic Beautiful Joe Park!
The tours are free, but donations are gratefully accepted online to the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society (a registered charity) or directly to your tour-guide.
