The Community Waterfront Heritage Centre’s fascinating 2016 summer exhibit, The Art of the Sailor celebrates the timeless techniques of the sailors’ traditional folk arts – tattoos, scrimshaw and knot tying, through an entertaining blend of artefacts, archival photos and interactive elements. Share the story of your tattoo, design your own ‘flash art’, and try you luck at the ‘6 Knot Challenge’.

We use ‘sayings’ every day.  They can express a complicated idea in a nutshell. This descriptive language encapsulates greater meaning, envisioning the message. Idioms may give us visual clues, but can be confusing if you don’t know what they mean. GHAC members, Melanie Earle, Shauna Earle and Carol Wood have invited guest artists’ Fran Bouwman, Sean Keating and Lazarus Ioannou to create new work based on this theme.

The Owen Sound Noon Hour series was founded in 1993 by local musician Joachim Ostertag. It presents a series of classical, jazz, folk and blues concerts throughout summer at Georgian Shores United Church. All concerts are by donation. Concerts run from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

The Arts and Advisory Council for Blue Mountains Public Library is hosting the 1st Annual Summer Invitational Show of arts and crafts.  Eight established local artists were selected to represent an eclectic cross-section of styles and mediums. Participating artists will be present at the opening on July 9th to greet the public and answer questions about their creative process.

Continuing for the months of July and August, the 1st Annual Summer Invitational Show of arts and crafts is on display in the Gallery at the L. E. Shore Memorial Library, Thornbury.  Eight artists were invited to represent their work, resulting in a diverse mix of styles and mediums.  The 2016 Summer Invitational includes Carolyn Corner, Gwendoline Joan Fraser, Kate Knox, Joan Folinsbee, Ivan Papazov-Vanche, Willi Wildman, Stephen Corner and Ann Wylie-Toal.  This is a great opportunity to view some of our best local artists' creations and a chance to pick up ‘one of a kind’!
