Grey Roots Museum & Archives is a family friendly attraction just outside of Owen Sound. With a tourist information centre, a 10-acre heritage village to explore, engaging exhibits, and easy access to Inglis Falls and the Bruce Trail, Grey Roots is the perfect stop for any Grey County outing.

Inside the Museum, visitors can enjoy world class exhibits, plan their trip and collect tourist information on local attractions, or research in the County’s largest archival holdings. Inspiring Nature, Inspired Techno is this summer’s featured exhibit, offering visitors an interactive look at the natural inspiration behind many modern technologies. The museum chronicles the vibrant tapestry of Grey County's heritage. Interactive displays engage visitors of all ages, offering hands-on activities that delve into topics such as agriculture, industry, and everyday life in rural Ontario.

Moreston Heritage Village

A highlight of the museum experience is Moreston Heritage Village, an outdoor exhibit just steps away from the main building, open from Canada Day until Labour Day. Here, visitors can quite literally step into Grey County’s past. Restored historic buildings transport visitors back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing a rural village setting complete with a schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and genuine historic buildings. Costumed interpreters add depth to the experience, sharing insights into the daily lives of early settlers and demonstrating traditional crafts and trades.

Events

The museum also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, some are put on by Grey Roots, while others are run by local community organizations. Throughout the year, Grey Roots hosts concerts, presentations, community gatherings, information sessions, and more. Some of the museum's most popular annual events include:

  • Spring into Moreston (fourth Saturday in May)
  • Our Roots are Showing Concert Series (March-June)
  • Emancipation Festival (August long weekend)
  • Antique & Classic Car Show (fourth Sunday in August)
  • Halloween Event (October)
  • Fall Lecture Series (November)
  • Moreston by Candlelight (first two Saturdays in December)
  • Lunar New Year Celebration (January or February)

2024 marks the 20th Anniversary of Grey Roots Museum & Archives! Two decades of presenting world class exhibitions, events and programming to visitors and residents of Grey County. Join their anniversary celebration on June 28, from 10:30am - 3:30pm.
