Explore Grey County's 2020 Maple Syrup Festivals
Ahh the spring thaw; as much as Canadians love their winter fun, there are few among us who don’t enjoy spring and the promise of warmer, longer, sunnier days. Not only is warmer spring weather exciting, it’s also key to the production of one of our most treasured Canadian agricultural products: maple syrup. Early in the spring the maple trees are still dormant but when temperatures rise above freezing during the day and drop back below freezing at night, the conditions are perfect for the sap to start running. This much-anticipated sap run is currently underway in Grey County and a full slate of maple syrup festivals are about to kick off.
Maple syrup festivals offer a great opportunity to get out and taste this spring tradition.
CANCELLED: The first festival of the season happens at Regal Point Elk Farm just outside Wiarton. The Maple Magic Festival runs on back-to-back weekend March 21-22 and March 28-29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This family festival raises funds for The Rotary Club of Wiarton. Enjoy a pancake breakfast, maple taffy on snow, maple cotton candy. After you’ve filled your belly, tour the Regal Point Elk Farm then conquer Mount Haymore, and enjoy the log sawing competition.
CANCELLED: Grey Roots Museum and Archives hosts Spring into Moreston on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrate the changing of the seasons with Spring into Moreston! Get moving with live music, enjoy pancakes from Kiwanis with real maple syrup (cash only), learn about maple trees from the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, make your own bannock, and try your hand at tree tapping. Bring the whole family and enjoy a full day of fun in the village! Special event admission rates apply. FREE for Grey Roots members.
CANCELLED: The historic 26th Annual Holstein Maplefest happens April 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Love’s Sugarbush near the village of Holstein. Don't miss the great breakfast in this 40-acre working sugar bush. There are many demonstrations for the kids—bee-keeping, birdfeeder building, log sawing, woodcarving, ice cream making, zip lining and more. Enjoy entertainment in the big tent including children’s face painting. Learn about different ways to make maple syrup and enjoy the Optimist Club’s all-day pancake breakfast.
CANCELLED: The 11th Annual Kemble Maple Syrup Tour is on April 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the village of Kemble. Visit one or all of this year's tour stops to experience the unique methods of maple syrup production, from small-scale to commercial, used to make some of Canada’s finest maple syrup. While touring, get up close to friendly farm animals, stop by the Big Bay General Store for some old fashioned hospitality and treats, stop by the arena for the artisan market and Family Fun Zone and of course enjoy our famous, homemade, maple-themed meal.
