As the temperatures start to cool and Grey County’s canvas begins to display vibrant reds, oranges, yellows and purples, it is the perfect time to tour studios of the talented artists who call this area home. During the fall months, many artists open their studio doors welcoming you to visit and view their work. We have created a colourful list of art events and locations.

Autumn Leaves Studio Tour

October 4th- 6th 10am-5pm and free

Witness the creativity of 33 artists located at 17 studios dotted throughout Grey County. Find handblown glass, stunning watercolours, cozy ceramics and vibrant paintings inspired by the fall landscapes. Purchase sculptures, metalworks, and fibre creations and so much more.

Meander down county backroads, ask the artists one-on-one about their practice and you might just learn a few secrets along the way.

Changing Colours 

October 1st-November 16th (Opening reception Saturday October 5th 2-4pm)
Presented by the Meaford Creative Arts Association at Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre

This annual art show presented by the Meaford Creative Arts Association is an artistic exhibit highlighting the changing colours of the landscape which inspires creativity. You will find a wonderful array of pottery, jewelry, acrylics and watercolours handcrafted by 20 local artists.

The Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre which is hosting this show is also a must see. Formerly the Council Chambers and Town offices, the renovated galleries feature 16ft ceilings, original refinished hardwood floors, and constantly changing exhibits. Admission to the Galleries is always free. Owen Sound Artists’ Co-Op

Much like the seasons, the art and fine craft you’ll find at the Owen Sound Artists’ Co-Op is always changing. With 45 members showcasing hundreds of handmade creations indoors, you’ll find gems which take their inspiration from Grey County outdoors and allow you to enjoy their work year-round.

Take your time when visiting the Owen Sound Artists’ Co-Op and be sure to grab a freshly baked treat from Birgit’s Pastry Café. Birgit is a phenomenal printmaker and potter herself, but you’re going to love what she creates from the oven.

Loft Gallery (Thornbury)

Apple picking season is upon us and the Loft Gallery in Thornbury is showcasing a collection of paintings, sculptures and works of art inspired by this delicious fruit. Be sure to check out “This is Apple County” Juried exhibition from October 11th- 30th 2019. Opening reception will be held on October 17th and will award prizes to the artists for both juror’s award and the Apple Pie Trail award.

The Art Map/The Food Map

Want even more local landscape inspiration? Grab your copy of the official “The Art Map” which is a year-round guide to all the art studios and galleries in Grey, Bruce, Simcoe and Manitoulin Island.

The TOM: Tom Thomson Art Gallery

Cooler weather sometimes makes you want to cozy up. Enjoy your art fix with upcoming autumn dates for the 24th season of Gallery Night at the Movies. In conjunction with the Toronto International Film Festival, experience films otherwise unavailable outside the Festival while collectively supporting the Canadian Film Industry.

Experience 11 films from both TIFF and the Film Festival Circuit on the big screen at the Cineplex Theatre Galaxy Cinemas Owen Sound. Seasons passes and individual tickets to screenings are available. Films to be announced soon!
