This region not only offers endless views from atop the Niagara Escarpment and sparkling Georgian Bay waters, we also offer a wide range of family activities and attractions that will keep your family smiling this summer. Here are a few of our favourite places to take the kids in Grey County.

Blue Mountain Resort

While you may think of Blue Mountain Resort as a ski destination, in recent years Blue has expanded their summer offerings to become a true four-season destination. Whether you want to go mountain biking, tackle the Woodlot Low Ropes or The Timber Challenge High ropes courses, ride the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, try the Apex Bag Jump, hike to the top or take the open-air gondola to take in the views, there is something for everyone.  Add a long list of free family events in the Blue Mountain Village all summer long and this is an amazing place to spend a day or a weekend with your family.

Grey Roots Museum and Archives

Rain or shine, there’s always something to see at Grey Roots Museum and Archives. During the summer months, the museum hosts a blockbuster exhibit—this year it’s Tutankhamun: Wonderful Things from the Pharaoh’s Tomb—alongside several smaller indoor exhibits. With a string of special events from classic car shows to night sky viewings, you’ll find something fun for your family here. Add the truly authentic experience of Moreston Heritage Village and your children will be learning and laughing at the same time.

Storybook Park

Opened in 1975, this family-run amusement park has been a local’s favourite for decades. Located just outside Owen Sound, Storybook Park has a wide variety of family rides, kiddie rides and waterslides as well as their themed storybook houses, a train that tours the grounds, mini golf and a variety of animals. Add Storybook Park to your Grey County summer vacation. 

The Tom Thomson Art Gallery

Give your children a lesson in Canadian art history with a visit to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound. Named for the iconic Canadian landscape artist who grew up and is buried in the Owen Sound area, the Tom Thomson Art Gallery offers a top-notch and revolving program of exhibitions, lectures, forums, films, concerts and workshops. A permanent gallery celebrates Thomson’s work—from oil sketches to graphics to archival material, your family will learn more about the artist who inspired the formation of the Group of Seven while exploring this beautiful gallery in downtown Owen Sound.

Local Beaches and Splash Pads
Grey County is home to many great beaches and swimming spots for families to enjoy. Near Owen Sound, you can take a dip at Kelso Beach or cool off in the Good Cheer Splash Pad onsite. Hibou Conservation Area in Leith and the nearby Ainslie Wood Conservation Area offer great access to Georgian Bay. Closer to Blue Mountain, Memorial Park in Meaford has a nice sandy beach while Christie Beach, Little River Beach Park and Northwinds Beach are also great family spots. Pack a picnic and spend the day. Further south, the Flesherton Pond is a popular spot, you can take a dip at the Lake Eugenia public beach, the Durham Dam or McGowan Falls.
