As a Grey County raised gal, it still amazes me the new businesses that pop up on a daily basis.  So I've made it my job to spread the word!

I didn't always know how fortunate I was living in Grey County until the moment I realized that we are a four-seasons region of endless adventure. Can it get any better than that!? As someone who radiates the perfect combination of curiosity and hunger, this place I call home, the quaint town of Meaford, Ontario fails to disappoint.

A bushel of Meaford apples
One benefit to living in apple country is the season duration. I have plenty of time to taste test all of the apple varieties offered by the many fruit stands in the area.
Leeky Canoe food and drink
You can’t live in Meaford and not visit this local gem at least once a month. Booming since 1999, The Leeky Canoe whips up some of the best pub fare in the area. There’s nothing quite beatable than potato skins and a Duxbury Cider.

From the surface, the countryside often gets pegged as boring but with deeper inspection, it goes without saying that we have a network of communities killing it in all things culinary, agriculture, tourism, artistry, adventure and entrepreneurship. One of my favourite parts about living in Grey County is being mere kilometers away from my next discovery, which is usually in the form of something saucy, cheesy, sugary or straight up edible. Above all, I love taking photos and being able to share my experience with others via social media, which naturally led to the launch of my blog, Lokal Digs.

apple pie
Do you really live in Grey County and not love apple pie? The Black Bird Pie Company in Heathcote, Ontario know how to layer up a pie. I mean, check out those apple slices.

Lokal Digs is a platform I built to boast about local people, places and things in the heart of Georgian Bay communities. My inspiration was derived from the appreciation I have for the diverse talent that floods our local hubs and rural areas. There is something so simply satisfying about seeing first hand where a product is created, grown, and nurtured. We are helping our hard working neighbors put a dollar in their pocket, all while contributing to our local economic growth.

Schultz's donuts
Sweeten up your day with a donut from Schultz’s Gone Totally Baked in Hanover, Ontario. I’m a sucker for their maple dipped but as you can see, we tested them all.

As a Grey County raised gal, it still amazes me the new businesses that pop up on a daily basis. You think you have seen it all, but that is far from the truth. I am all about the journey, and as exciting as it is for me to explore my local turf, my ultimate goal is to spread the word, and give my readers a truly “lokal” perspective.

Coffin Ridge spread
I’m a pretty loyal client of Coffin Ridge wines. I can find almost any excuse to visit their winery, or bring a bottle along for an autumn picnic.  It’s one of Grey County’s finest.
Casero tacos
Tacos, Margaritas and Paletas are three reasons you should take a trip to Casero Kitchen Table in Owen Sound, Ontario. They are a #FeastOn certified restaurant, committed to using locally sourced product as much as possible. This place is worth the hype!

To stay in the know, give me a follow on Instagram, Facebook or check out my website for future features. For now, here are a few Grey County gems to show you how I Colour It My Way.

Bicycle Cafe Flesherton
If you have a couple hours to pass, I highly suggest visiting The Bicycle Café in Flesherton, Ontario. To say I’m obsessed with their eclectic menu and complimentary seasoned popcorn is an understatement. It’s worth the drive.
