Drive-By Fooding – Great Food to Go!

Are you looking for good food to go but don’t want to visit a fast food chain for the same old drive-through burger or bagel? Check out these fantastic grab-and-go options from local scratch kitchens all across Grey County.

Food Trucks:

  • Grilled in Action – Burgers and fries with a twist. This truck moves around Owen Sound and pops up at special events, check Facebook for locations. 
  • Sweet Things Grill Wagon – A farm-to-table food truck serving lamb, rabbit, turkey, eggs and foods from Sweet Things Farm. Enjoy hot breakfasts at farmers’ markets and rib-sticking food at events around the area. Frozen entrees are also available. See Facebook for details. 

Prepared meals to go:

  • Peasemarsh Farm, Flesherton – Gourmet take-out meals lovingly prepared in small batches from local and organic ingredients. Plus catering, and lots of take-away items from local farms from fresh bread to salad greens.
  • Ravenna Country Market, Ravenna (grilled ham and cheese pictured below) – The freezers are stocked with delicious frozen entrees made onsite in the café’s open kitchen and the panini grill is always hot. Try the pasta or pie but make sure you take home some butter tarts and fudge, too!

Ice cream and frozen treats:

  • Pom Pom Treat Hut, Thornbury – Home-made frozen “Wheelie Pops” and slushies featuring seasonal fruits and other yummy ingredients, plus smoothies, ice cream sandwiches (with fresh-baked cookies), scoop and soft-serve ice cream.
  • Maria’s Gelato, Keady – Stop for the fantastic home-made gelato in a variety of flavours, then pick up some hand-made peirogies to take home and enjoy.
  • Big Bay General Store, Big Bay – A favourite stop for years. Skipping stones by the pier or a ride around scenic Grey Road 1 isn’t complete without a stop for Big Bay ice cream.

  • Kimberley General Store, Kimberley - Friday night wood-fired pizza in the outdoor oven brings out locals and visitors every week.
  • Blackbird Pie Co., Heathcote – Sweet and savoury goodies to enjoy beside the Beaver River before, during or after your paddle.
  • Eckhardt’s Shell, Durham (tart pictured above) – Last but not least, our favourite place to stop for gigantic, delicious butter tarts!

Upland hardwood forest and conifer plantations cover rugged terrain and provides many scenic views of the surrounding landscape. Wide trails on rolling terrain with some sandy areas. Due to recent ATV activity these trails have become somewhat eroded and much underlying coarse rock has been turned up resulting in difficult sections.

This busy trail system caters to a variety of users including hikers and equestrians. Moderately technical singletrack through rolling mixed forest with some sandy areas and some good technical descents.

Looping trails featuring both single track and wide track trails. The trail tread is mainly sand and grass with some rocky sections and drains very quickly. The trails traverse moderate to steep rolling hills among hardwood and pine plantation forests and are ideal for an afternoon of riding.
