Feast With Your Farmer: On-Farm Food Events Across Grey

Are you looking for authentic rural outings paired with high-quality culinary experiences?

There are several on-farm local food events this summer to consider, including exclusive multi-course dinners, wine and cheese tastings and more. 
 

Here are some wonderful on-farm events for you to enjoy:

Secret Lands Wine and Cheese

Secret Lands Wine and Cheese

On Saturday June 18, enjoy an evening tasting of farm-made sheep milk cheeses and lamb charcuterie paired with wines from United Stars.

Secret Lands is a family-owned farm producing high quality gourmet products from their flock of 400 sheep. They use regenerative agriculture practices and are the only producers in Canada who use kefir as the basis for their cheese-making, a 2-step fermentation process that creates fantastic results.

Devonwood Farm

Eat Local Grey Bruce Local Food Dinner at Devonwood Farm

On Friday July 8, enjoy an evening in a stunning event barn featuring a 3-course menu of seasonal local and foraged foods by chef Zack Keeshig of Naagan and VeganCo paired with drinks from local beverage providers.

Eat Local Grey Bruce is a member cooperative with over 70 local food producers offering high quality foods of all kinds. ELGB is committed to promoting and supporting local food and creating a community around it, and to foster that community, they host special events with local chefs. This one promises to be amazing!

Good Family Farms

Good Family Farms

An on-farm beef BBQ and pork roast on Sunday August 21, with food and drink from local south Georgian Bay businesses Sumac + Salt, Justin's Oven, Pineapple Sage, Gibson and Company, Still Fields Brewery and Duntroon Cider.

Good Family Farms having been farming organically in southwestern Ontarion for two generations. The farm in the rolling hills near Meaford is diversified to include grain, beans, and animals of al kinds. GFF have been hosting amazing on-farm dinners over the past 5 years or so and they are known as a "not to be missed" event by anyone who attends.

Naagan

Chef Zach Keeshig creates Indigenous-inspired foraged and local food suppers at the Owen Sound Farmers Market (and elsewhere).

Chef Zach has trained with some of the best chefs in Canada, including work at Michael Stadtlander's Eigensinn Farm in Singhampton and Langdon Hall in Cambridge. He is dedicated to teaching Indigenous foodways to the next generation, and works with cohorts of Indigenous learners to teach gardening, foraging and cooking skills. 

His Naagan dinners are an opportunity to experience his knowledge and skill in an intimate and exclusive environment. 

Sumac + Salt

Sumac + Salt 

Sumac + Salt prepare foraged and locally sourced meals in your own home, and at other special events. (see Good Family Farms above).

Joel Gray and Hannah Harradine of Sumac + Salt are rock stars in Grey County's culinary scene. Moving from location to location, they stage artful pop-ups serving incredible food wherever they go. It could be an on-farm event, or a private catering in your home.

NomadHomeChef

NomadHomeChef 

NomadHomeChef is the appropriate moniker for Ryan Praskey, who like Sumac + Salt above, makes his living as an itinerant chef-for-hire. NomadHomeChef cooks at pop-up events at venues across Grey, including several pop-ups this summer at Still Fields Brewery. He's also available for catering your parties and special events. 

Ryan's food is always fresh and local and seasonal, sometimes foraged, always inspired, always delicious. Check out his Instagram (linked) for mouth-watering photos and event dates. 

Secret Lands

Secret Lands Saturday Brunches, Family Sundays and More 

Take a break from the city and head to a farm famous for its sheep! On Saturdays, they offer guided tours of the farm with a brunch menu. Sundays are ideal for families with children to come for visit and learn about our farm. You will visit the barn, milking area & creamery with a brief description of cheese making, milk, and butter production, and our Sacred Cheese Room. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5pm till 7pm they offer a tasting menu with the most refined hand-crafted Kefir cheeses varieties and lamb meat and charcuteries!
