There’s nothing more magical during the holidays than quaint small towns decked out in twinkling lights and fresh snow. Head to one or all of Grey County’s downtowns for seasonal shopping, tasty treats or to just soak up the sights and sounds of the season. Check this list twice to get your holiday’s started.

With fall upon us and the cooler weather setting in, finding a warm and cozy location where you can relax is the perfect way to spend a day. Grey County isn’t short on places to get your relaxation on. 

General Store

The general store was once the original big box retailer. In Grey County, the general store culture is still thriving today. They have reinvented themselves to be everything a modern retailer cannot be, which makes them so much fun, and delicious.

Located along the southern shore of the Georgian Bay, Grey County has established a solid reputation for the quality of the area’s cycling opportunities and its tasty liquid refreshments, aka beer, wine & cider.

There's a lot of hype surrounding ‘mindfulness’ these days—and for good reason with the hustle and bustled of our quick-paced lives. Grey County provides an awe-inspiring array of rich colours, sounds, smells and textures throughout the four seasons to practice mindfulness.

As the temperatures start to cool and Grey County’s canvas begins to display vibrant reds, oranges, yellows and purples, it is the perfect time to tour studios of the talented artists who call this area home.

Gravel Road

In Grey County, gravel roads are a part of life; we live on them, commute on them and spend much of the winter sliding around on them. So it’s surprising when we hear some people are wary of the road less paved. But the thing is, if you want to avoid the crowds, experience incredible scenery and find those ‘secret spots’ you simply need to get off the asphalt. Don’t be afraid to turn off your GPS, fold up your map and go where your whimsy takes you. Here are a couple of our favourite gravel roads for taking in the best of the fall colours: without the crowds.

Fall fairs are ingrained in Grey County's history. Most still celebrate the season the way it has been done for well over a century in rural Ontario, with livestock and trained animal shows; bake-offs; fruit, vegetable, flower and preserve contests; parades; quilt and art shows; farm equipment displays; BBQ dinners and live entertainment.

So, you like to travel right? Explore new places, eat different foods, take pictures and share them with your Instagram friends? We challenge you to take the Grey County Tourist Challenge this year. Why? Because Tourism Matters in Grey County.

Farmers' markets across Grey are up and running for the 2019 season. With the exception of Owen Sound (which is open year-round) most market are open from Victoria Day weekend or shortly after, just in time for the first local harvests, until Thanksgiving weekend.

So, if you guys were following along on Insta-stories a couple weeks ago, you already know that Andrew and I headed on a little romantic getaway to Grey County for the weekend. And what a spectacular weekend it was!
